On May 29th, 1978 a U.S. Air Force F-106 jet fighter piloted by Captain Bruce Miller was taking off from McChord Air Force Base in Tacoma, Washington on a routine cross-country flight when the aircraft suffered a massive engine and flight control failure and fire.
